Following the preseason finale against the giants, head coach Brian Billick and his staff will have to make decisions on the team’s starting quarterback and personnel on its offensive and defensive lines.

This is no short order, considering the Ravens’ breakdowns in the team’s 24-3 loss to Washington last week and the fact that the regular season opens in Pittsburgh a week from Sunday.

As has been the case all preseason, much of the focus will be on the quarterback battle. Two different people will be fighting for the starting position and it will interesting to see who gets it.

Despite each completing more than 60 percent of their passes – Boller went 14 of 20 for 101 yards, Redman was 17-for-28 with 163 yards and neither quarterback could get into any kind of rhythm.

The Ravens will finalize their decision on a starter soon after Thursday’s game.

Baltimore will also soon decide on how it will use Suggs, the team’s first pick in the 2003 draft. Suggs, who has been moved from defensive end to outside linebacker. He has not been doing good since training camp and it is a huge dissapointment to all of the people involved with the Ravens.

A neck injury that caused him to miss the second preseason game has also contributed to a slow start.

The Ravens may start the season with Adalius Thomas at strong-side outside linebacker, and use Suggs on the line in passing situations.

“We need someone to just make a play,” Billick said. “Can someone make a big sack? Can someone get an interception? Can someone go up and come down with the ball in an unusual situation; something to distinguish themselves from the rest of the pack?”
